The Construction of Zheleznitsa Tunnel at Struma Motorway has Started
The construction of Zheleznitsa tunnel at Struma motorway has started, as well as the road sections direct before and after it. The facility will be about 2 km long and the longest road tunnel ever built in our country. The implementation is divided in three parts - the tunnel, the road before and after it, so that the site can be operated simultaneously and completed within the term of Operational Program "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" 2014-2020.
The tunnel will have two separate pipes for movement. The length of each will be about 2 km. The facility will have all the necessary systems for energy efficient lighting, ventilation, CCTV, fire alarm, intelligent traffic management system, emergency SOS cabins, electronic access control system, etc. A service tunnel road will be built at the south portal of the tunnel from the side of the town of Simitli, as well as a helipad, two bridges over Suha Reka River, which are 108 m and 18 m long respectively, a bulkhead wall, etc.
Contractor of the tunnel is Consortium AM STRUMA TUNNEL 2018, which includes: GP GROUP AD, GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION OOD and VIA PLAN EOOD. The value of the contract is BGN 185 370 370,37 without VAT. The construction supervision is assigned to Plan Invest Zheleznitsa DZZD. The association includes: PLAN INVEST PLOVDIV, INFRA PROJECT CONSULT EOOD, Askos 03 EOOD, SEARCH CORPORATION SRL. The value of the contract is BGN 3 994 440 excluding VAT.
The section before the tunnel, traveling from Sofia to Kulata, is 720 m long. It also includes a service tunnel road at the northern portal and a bridge structure. The section will be constructed by the DZZD “Zheleznitsa – Sever”, including: GBS Infrastructure Construction AD, Glavbolgarstroy AD and Glavbolgarstroy International EAD. The value of the contract is BGN 29 985 345 excluding VAT. The construction supervision is assigned to DZZD TES Consult, including: STROL 1000 AD, TRI-ES” EOOD and EXPERT DECISIONS” OOD. Their contract is for BGN 599 783 without VAT.
The section after the tunnel is 1.4 km long. An agricultural underpass, bulkhead and retaining wall, drainage facilities, construction and reconstruction of utility networks, etc. will be built on site. PST GROUP EAD is the contractor for the construction works. The value of the contract is BGN 18 442 297,40 without VAT. The construction supervision is assigned to DZZD PATCONSULT 2000-CONSULT 64, including: PATCONSULT 2000 EOOD and CONSULT 64 OOD. Their contract is for BGN 465 222 without VAT.
Struma Motorway is part of the Orient/Eastern Mediterranean Corridor linking Vidin to Kulata and serving the traffic to Greece. The direction is used as the shortest route between Western, Central Europe and the Aegean Sea, as well as Europe's connection with Asia.
The project will be co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the state budget through the OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020.
