“When I first came here, it was meadow and mountain. Then - they ate the rock, stone after stone, and for an year and a half, six months earlier, this is already an exceptional facility that the Bulgarian engineers have a lot to talk about”, declared the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov at the official opening of the new 9.3 km section of Hemus Motorway between Yablanitsa and Boaza. The construction of the route started at the end of March 2018 and ended almost 6 months ahead of schedule. The investment is for BGN 66 million including VAT and the funds are from the state budget.
The overall completion of “Hemus” is a major priority in the government's management program, since the future of Northern Bulgaria and the modernization of the region is related to the construction of the motorway and the provision of fast and safe road communication between Sofia and Varna.
“Now it looks easy and beautiful, with recreation areas. And at first it was mud, gravel, embankment”, said also the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov during the inspection of the new section between Yablanitsa and Boaza. The Prime minister noted that on the construction of other sections of the Hemus route is also being hard worked on. The motorway section between Yablanitsa and Boaza has two active lanes and an emergency one in each direction. 5 agricultural underpasses and 2 agricultural overpasses have been constructed, as well as the underpass at the Brestnitsa - Saeva dupka municipal road. The Prime Minister Borisov informed Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Petya Avramova that in the section between Yablanitsa and Boaza is the largest reinforced embankment, built so far in Bulgaria - a 45 m common embankment with a height of 25 m on the reinforced embankment.
It is an almost vertical sloping wall with special reinforcement nets and systems embedded in its structure. Nearly 104,000 tons of asphalt has been laid in the construction of the section, and 40 km of high-grade crash barriers and 24.5 km of safety nets have been installed to ensure the road safety.
Another 150 km of the motorway, financed from the state budget, are at a different stage of implementation. The goal is to complete the entire alignment by 2023.
