heavy_3.jpgTomorrow, September 3rd, the last working day before the three holidays around the Unification Day, from 18 to 21 o’clock, the traffic of trucks over 12 tons on the Trakia Motorway in the section from Sofia to Plovdiv will be restricted /North junction/, in the direction towards Plovdiv, as well as on the Hemus Motorway from Sofia to Boaza /the roundabout at 87th km/ in the direction towards Varna. Heavy traffic on the first-class road I-1 /E79/ Blagoevgrad - Kresna in both directions /from the connection with Struma Motorway at Blagoevgrad to the connection with Struma Motorway at Kresna/ will also be stopped.

The joint order was issued by the Road Infrastructure Agency, the General Directorate National Police and the Executive Agency Road Transport Administration. The aim is to improve safety, to increase infrastructure capacity and to reduce road accidents involving heavy goods vehicles.

Heavy goods vehicles will also be stopped on Monday, September 6 and Sunday, September 12, from 16 to 20 o’clock. The passage of vehicles over 12 tons will be restricted on Trakia Motorway in the section from Plovdiv to Sofia in the direction towards the capital and on the Hemus Motorway from Boaza /roundabout at the 87th km/ to Sofia, as well as on the road I-1 Blagoevgrad - Kresna in both directions.

The restriction does not apply to vehicles carrying perishable foodstuffs and temperature-controlled loads, live animals and dangerous goods (ADR).

In connection with the expected heavy traffic, the Road Infrastructure Agency urges drivers to drive reasonably and at a reasonable speed, to follow the traffic rules and not to use the emergency lanes on the motorways’ sections for faster movement. Risky and emotional driving does not guarantee a shorter trip, but endangers the lives and health of everyone else who follows the rules.

On the Hemus Motorway, the repair and restoration works of the tunnel towards Sofia of the Echemishka Tunnel continue. The traffic is two ways in the tunnel towards Varna.

On the Maritsa Motorway, the repair of expansion joints of the bridge facility over the Yerusalimovska River at the 82nd km of the Maritsa Motorway in the lane towards the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint continues. Until September 10, the traffic in the section from the 85th to the 80th km of the Maritsa Motorway in the area of the town of Lyubimets will be carried out in a two-way traffic in the lane to Haskovo.

All citizens and transport companies can receive information about the current traffic situation from the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency – www.api.bg, and at any time of the day on tel. 0700 130 20 at the Road Infrastructure Agency. The agency has a 24-hour Situation Center all year round, which collects and summarizes data on the condition of the national roads.
