Today the traffic is commissioned in the repaired 10 km section of the Trakia/Thrace Highway between the road junction "Chirpan" and the road junction "Chirpan - East"
Today at about 11 o'clock, the traffic in the repaired 10 km section of the Trakia/Thrace highway of totally 16.5 km, which began to be renewed in February, is commissioned. At the beginning of April, the repair of the 6-kilometer section between the connection for the Maritsa Highway and the Chirpan road junction was completed.
The section has restored/reconstructed bearing capacity of the road structure, improved dewatering, new asphalt pavement, restraint systems/guardrails/, markings and signs. Using the cold recycling method, our teams restored the bearing capacity of the road structure in the whole section. The construction works also include machine alignment of the banquets, deep milling of the existing pavement, repair and restoration/reconstruction works of 9 facilities in the section between the road junctions "Chirpan" and "Chirpan - East", concrete works, laying of geogrid, of leaky and wearing layer of split-mastic. Construction teams worked on the site simultaneously in both lanes and in order to restore the traffic in the section, which has been in operation since 2007, as the road maintenance company Avtomagistrali EAD has been working in a maximally mobilized manner without a day off, according to the meteorological conditions.
The completed construction activities in the 16.5 km section are part of the phased repair of a total of 52 km of the Trakia/Thrace Highway / from the 156th to the 208th km /, which started in October last year. At the end of December 2020, the renovation of 12 km of the Trakia/Thrace Highway in both lanes, between the Belozem and Orizovo road junctions, was completed. The route has new asphalt pavement, improved dewatering, horizontal marking, road signs and restriction systems. In the lane for Burgas last year, a 2-kilometer section between km 198 and km 200 was renovated.
As of today - April 23, the repair of the next over 23 km from the Trakia Highway up to the Stara Zagora road junction continues. Both lanes will be closed off and traffic will pass along a bypass route.
Travelers from Sofia to Bourgas will deviate at the road junction "Chirpan - East" of the "Trakia" highway along road II-66. From there along the second-class road, they will continue up to the road junction "Stara Zagora - Kolyo Ganchev", which is located on road II-66 and road I-5 Stara Zagora - Dimitrovgrad. After that, the traffic is along road I-5 up to the road junction "Stara Zagora", where drivers will continue along the "Trakia"/Thrace highway.
Travelers from Bourgas to Sofia will deviate at the road junction "Stara Zagora" of the "Trakia" highway along road I-5 up to the road junction "Stara Zagora - Kolyo Ganchev". From there along road II-66, they will continue up to the road junction "Chirpan - East" to get back onto the Trakia/Thrace highway.
An alternative route of the section under repair of the Trakia Highway is the Sub-Balkan Road I-6 Sofia - Burgas. The Road Infrastructure Agency urges and makes an appeal to drivers to use also the first-class road for greater convenience, when traveling during peak days and hours.
The repair of the section of the Trakia/Thrace Highway between the Chirpan-East and Stara Zagora road junctions is expected to continue until 30 June 2021.
