From 13th to 31st of May the traffic organization in a 20-meter section of the Danube Bridge at Ruse is changed for emergency repair of a joint

From 13th to 31st of May the traffic organization in a section of Danube Bridge at Ruse is changed for emergency repair of a joint of the structure. For this, the 20-metre section in the lane towards Giurgiu will be restricted and traffic will be allowed to pass in stages in both directions in the lane towards Ruse. Once the emergency works in this lane are completed, which will take about 10 days, the traffic will be restricted in the lane to Ruse and the vehicles will be allowed to enter the repaired section in stages. The crossing of the bridge will be regulated by signallers and border police.

The Road Infrastructure Agency apologises to motorists for any inconvenience caused but the emergency works are necessary and compulsory. The appeal to the drivers is to travel carefully, to follow strictly the set traffic signals, to keep their distance and not to undertake risky overtaking, endangering the safety of other travellers. All citizens and transport companies can get information about the current road situation from the website of the RIA — www.api.bg, as well as at any time of the day by calling tel. 0700 130 20.

The RIA programme foresees a major repair of the Danube Bridge. None has been carried out since the facility was built. Joint strengthening was done more than 22 years ago and the waterproofing and asphalt pavement was replaced in 2011. The technical project for the renovation of the facility envisages the complete replacement of the asphalt pavement, the panels, waterproofing, new restraint systems, markings, etc. A contractor has been selected for the implementation of the overhaul and at the end of December this year a contract was signed with the Dunav Most DZZD, following an open procedure under the Public Procurement Act. Its value is BGN 44 877 228,68 including VAT. The technical design is currently being coordinated, after which the building permit can be issued. At the same time, options for optimizing the construction process are being discussed and considered with the contractor of the construction works in order to reduce the difficulties of the passers-by, especially in the active tourist season, when the traffic is the most intense both from transit heavy traffic and from Romanian tourists travelling to the Black Sea resorts. The Road Infrastructure Agency's requirement to the contractor is that the traffic on the Danube Bridge should not be stopped when the construction works start. The work process will be carried out and organised so that traffic passes safely in one lane.
