Construction of the Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo Motorway Started near Tsenovo

Ruse has huge potential because it is in the centre of the motorways we want to develop. The city is an integral part of the talks with the prime ministers of Greece and Romania on the development of regional connectivity along the South-North axis. This was stated by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov, who participated today in the groundbreaking of the second lot of the Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo motorway. The Prime Minister pointed out that it was important that the project, the implementation of which started today, be completed as soon as possible, because it was crucial for Bulgaria and the whole region.

"For Bulgaria, the Ruse —Veliko Tarnovo motorway is a step towards the economic revival of Northern Bulgaria. The motorway is 132 km long and today we start construction on one of its sections. In 5 years we will have full connectivity in Northern Bulgaria", the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Andrey Tsekov said. The Minister gave more details on the construction process of the site. The project for the 8-kilometre stretch that opens today has been approved and a building permit has been issued. The funds are foreseen in the budget. Separately, we are counting on BGN 1.8 billion under the Transport and Transport Connectivity programme. By April next year, the projects for the entire 75-kilometer section between Ruse and Byala are expected to be handed over. At the beginning of next year a public tender will be announced for the last section — the third section, which should connect the highway between Byala and Veliko Tarnovo, i.e. to the town of Debelets. In 2024, a public tender will be announced for the design of the completion of the motorway route in the direction of Veliko Tarnovo to Maritsa motorway.

The Regional Minister Andrey Tsekov also specified that in the budget for 2024 funds are planned for the design of expressways in the region — an expressway between Svishtov and the new motorway "Ruse — Veliko Tarnovo", from Ruse to Shumen, from Silistra to Shumen, an expressway Silistra-Dobrich-Varna. "The funds are budgeted for next year. We hope that the design will start next year so that in the medium term the entire first-class road network in the region will be upgraded," the minister explained some of the RIA's plans for the development of the road network in North-Eastern Bulgaria.

The project route of the motorway has a total length of 132.84 km and is divided into three sections: Ruse — Byala, bypass of Byala and Byala — Veliko Tarnovo. The second lot of the motorway, which was opened today, is a bypass of the town of Byala with a total length of 35.4 km. The construction will start in a 7,9kilometer section, which is in the land of Tsenovo municipality, Ruse region. It has a ready technical design, completed expropriations and a building permit. For the remaining part of the motorway, the preparation of the technical designs and the securing of the terrain of the route continues. The project for the construction of  Lots 1 and 2 of the Ruse — Veliko Tarnovo Motorway is included in the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027.

The ceremony today was attended by Eng. Desislava Paunova and Eng. Yordan Valchev - members of the RIA Management Board, regional governors, MPs and mayors from the region.
