There Are Four Open Price Offers for the Design and Construction of the Tunnel under Shipka
The price offers in the tender procedure for selection of a builder of the tunnel under Shipka are open. The public procurement for design and construction envisages the construction of a section with a length of 10,553 km, of which 7.6 km are new construction, and 2.9 km are reconstruction of the existing road I-5 Gabrovo - Kazanlak, as well as the construction of 5 tunnels with a total length of 4,011 km. The tunnel under Shipka is going to be 3.22 km. The other 4 tunnels are smaller – respectively with the length of 171 m, 240 m, 90 m and 290 m. Another 6 bridges and 1 underpass will be built, together with 12 reinforced embankments, one reinforced concrete retaining wall, one reinforced concrete fortification wall, etc.
The open price offers are given by:
- Company under the Law on Obligations and Contracts (CLOC) „Consortium” Road Constructions Veliko Tarnovo” (RCVT), with participants: Road Construction - Veliko Tarnovo Joint Stock Company (JSC), Hydrostroy JSC and Patinzherenigstroy-T JSC - BGN 358,020,000 with VAT;
- SHIPCHENSKI PROHOD ASSOCIATION, which includes: TRACE GROUP HOLD AD and ALVE CONSULT Ltd. (Limited company with one owner) - BGN 359,610,000 with VAT;
- Company under the Law on Obligations and Contracts (CLOC) “Shipka tunnel”, with participants: DOUSH INSHAAT VE TIDJARET JSC, VIA CONSTRUCT GROUP Ltd. and VIA PLAN Ltd. - BGN 376,920,437.02 with VAT;
- Association “SHIPKA GEOROAD”, with participants: “Geostroy” JSC and “Patstroy - 92” JSC - BGN 417,513,264 with VAT.
The work of the tender commission for evaluation of the bids continues.
The tunnel under Shipka Peak will be located 1 km west of Shipka Pass and 1 km east of Malusha Peak. The northern part of the tunnel is going to be in Gabrovo district, and its southern part - in Stara Zagora district. It is going to have two road lanes, two guide bands and two sidewalks.
The term for execution of the construction and installation works is 1,280 calendar days or nearly 3 and half years.
The facility will be a key point in the traffic in the direction North - South and will provide the possibility to pass through the Balkan Mountains in the central part of Bulgaria. The main transport directions that it is going to serve are: Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo - Shipka - Stara Zagora - Svilengrad (Makaza) and Oryahovo - Sevlievo - Shipka - Stara Zagora - Svilengrad (Makaza).
The project "Design and construction of a site:" Detour of Gabrovo from km 20 + 124.50 to km 30 + 673.48, including a tunnel under Shipka Peak" is proposed by Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) to be included for funding under the "Transport Connectivity" Program 2021-2027
